Current Assessment
The clearest personal wealth evidence is the 2016 DreamWorks Animation sale. Los Angeles Times reported that Katzenberg's DreamWorks shares were worth about $391.6 million when NBCUniversal bought the studio. Earlier estimates placed his wealth near $900 million after that deal. Since then, he has built WndrCo, a private investment firm with exposure to several large technology and media companies. Those holdings may be valuable, but the public record does not show his ownership, carry, or direct investment amounts. The estimate does not add DreamWorks catalog value or Quibi's capital raised to his personal wealth.
Key caveats
- WndrCo's private economics are not public.
- Quibi's personal cost to Katzenberg is unknown.
- DreamWorks Animation IP was sold to NBCUniversal and should not be counted again as a retained asset.
Evidence gaps
- Direct SEC filing retrieval for the DreamWorks payout
- Current real estate and liabilities
- WndrCo ownership and realized investment gains
