Estimate
Current Assessment
The strongest evidence is the Instagram exit. Facebook's filing shows the acquisition was paid in cash and stock, while contemporaneous reporting put Systrom's stake at about 40%, or roughly $400 million at the deal's headline value. Forbes later estimated him at about $1.1 billion in 2016 as Facebook stock rose. The current range depends on how much Meta exposure he kept, how much he sold, taxes, and later investments.
Key caveats
- No current public filing shows Systrom's remaining Meta holdings.
- Artifact's sale to Yahoo is confirmed, but no price or personal proceeds were disclosed.
- Instagram's later value inside Meta is not counted as Systrom's personal wealth.
Evidence gaps
- Current holdings
- Real estate and other assets
- Liabilities
- Private investment results
