Estimate
Current Assessment
The estimate rests on reported founder equity, not Shein’s sales. Bloomberg says Xu owns 37% of Shein’s ultimate holding company and uses a $33 billion valuation for the private company, implying about $12.2 billion of equity value. Older private valuations were much higher, but Shein’s delayed IPO process, regulatory scrutiny and lower reported valuation expectations make those older marks less useful for a current estimate.
Key caveats
- Shein is privately held, so the cap table and financials are not fully public.
- The reported 37% stake was not independently verified from the underlying filing in this pass.
- Company revenue, cash and GMV are not counted as Xu’s personal wealth.
- The estimate could move sharply if an IPO prospectus confirms different ownership or a materially different valuation.
Evidence gaps
- Primary beneficial-ownership filing
- Complete cap table and share classes
- Share pledges or personal debt
- Non-Shein assets and liabilities
